Dianette is used to treat severe acne, abnormal hair growth in women (hirsutism) as a result of excessive production of male sex hormones and contraception. Dianette is not recommended for continuous usage as contraceptive. You should stop using Dianette three to four months after your skin has got better. If your acne or hirsutism comes back again, you can take repeat courses.

What is Dianette?

Dianette is used for acne in women, abnormal hair growth and hair loss in women. This medicine also provides contraception for women taking it for acne or hirsutism, but it should not be used solely as a contraceptive.

How to take Dianette?

Dianette is available in calendar packs containing a 21 day treatment cycle. You can start taking Dianette at any time if you have not recently had a period or commenced on the first day of the menstrual cycle if you have.

Take Dianette at the same time each day for three weeks. On completion of each pack you should wait for 7 days before commencing the next one.

Who should not take Dianette?

Please make sure you understand the benefits and risks of taking Dianette before you start taking it, or when deciding whether to carry on taking it. Although Dianette is suitable for most healthy women, it should not be used in the following cases:

• If you are pregnant or might be pregnant
• Breast feeding
  
• Breast or womb cancers
• Vaginal bleeding
  
• Family history of blood clots in the legs, lungs, heart, brain or any other parts of the body
  
• If you have any condition which makes you more at risk of a blood clot
  
• If you have abnormal red blood cells (sickle-cell anaemia)
  
• If you have disorders of blood fat (lipid) metabolism
  
• If you have ever had a severe liver disease
  
• If you have certain types of jaundice (Dubin-Johnson or Rotor syndromes)
  
• If you have ever had liver tumours
  
• If you have severe diabetes affecting your blood vessels
  
• If you have ever had a blister-like rash called herpes gestationis
  
• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients in Dianette.
