Lipitor Side Effects

Lipitor (atorvastatin) is not suitable for you if you have liver problems. It is also not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The common side effects of Lipitor are diarrhoea, upset stomach, muscle and joint pain, tiredness and, tendon problems. Lipitor can also cause liver and muscle problems in some people.

Call your GP immediately if you experience any of the following;

• Muscle problems like tenderness, weakness or pain that happen without a good reason, especially if you also have a fever or feel more tired than usual
• You pass brown or dark coloured urine
• Allergic reactions including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing, which may require treatment right away
• Nausea and vomiting
• You feel more tired than usual
• Your skin and whites of your eyes get yellow
• Stomach pain

Who should not take Lipitor?

Tell your Doctor if you are taking any other medication before Lipitor (atorvastatin) is prescribed to you. Also tell your Doctor if you have any muscle pain or weakness, diabetes, thyroid problem, kidney problem of if you take more than 2 glasses of alcohol daily. Do not take Lipitor if you are allergic to the active ingredient of Lipitor (atorvastatin), if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you have liver disease.
