Obesity
Xenical
Xenical (Roche) is a lipase inhibitor. It is used to aid weight loss in people who are overweight or obese. Xenical blocks the action of the fat-digesting lipase enzymes in the intestine. This stops around 30 percent of the fat you’ve eaten from being absorbed. It simply passes through your digestive system and you lose weight as a result. Xenical should be used in conjunction with increased physical activity and a reduced calorie, lower fat diet.

Obesity, its causes and treatment
What is obesity?
Obesity is when a person has too much body fat for their gender and height. In the UK, people with a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 30 are categorized as overweight, and those with an index above 30 are categorized as obese.
Almost a quarter of adults in England were obese according to a 2009 study. It is estimated that nearly 50% of men and over a 30% of women will be obese by 2025.
Causes of obesity
Over time, eating excess calories leads to weight gain. In the absence of enough physical activity or exercise, the excess calories are stored as fat in our body. Without lifestyle changes to increase the amount of physical activity done on a daily basis, or reduce the amount of calories consumed, people can become obese.
Obesity can lead to number of other health problems
Being overweight or obese can shorten life expectancy. In obese people over 40 years, obesity can shorten life expectancy by 6-7 years. Obesity can cause a number of health problems, including type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
Obesity treatments
Obesity is treated by losing weight, which can be achieved through a healthy calorie-controlled diet and increased exercise. Your Doctor can prescribe weight loss treatments such as Xenical and Alli if you are struggling to lose weight with exercise and dieting alone.
