What is Tamiflu?

Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is approved for adults and children over 12 months of age. Take Tamiflu within 48 hours of the start of flu symptoms. Tamiflu is taken one capsule twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, for five days.

If you are taking Tamiflu (oseltamivir) as a prophylaxis after coming into contact with an infected person then the dosage is one capsule per day for 10 days.

Tamiflu can be taken with or without food. You should complete the entire treatment of ten capsules, even if you are feeling better.

Tamiflu Side Effects

Not everyone who takes Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is affected by side effects of Tamiflu. Stop taking Tamiflu and call your Doctor if you experience any of these reactions, as they could be very serious.

The most common side effects of TAMIFLU are mild to moderate nausea and vomiting. TAMIFLU is generally well tolerated. In some patients, rare skin and allergic reactions have been reported. If you have an allergic reaction to Tamiflu, including a severe rash, stop taking the medication and contact your Doctor.

Less common side effects include bronchitis, difficulty sleeping and dizziness.

People with the flu, particularly children and young people may be at an increased risk of confusion and symptoms of self injury shortly after taking Tamiflu and should be closely monitored for signs of unusual behaviour.

Who should not take Tamiflu?

Check with your GP if you have kidney disease, heart disease, respiratory disease or any other serious health condition.
